The Oncological Reference Center of Aviano began its activities in 1984 and was recognized in 1990 as a Health Care and Research Institute of a Scientific Nature (IRCCS) by the Ministry of Health. It is dedicated to the care and research on tumors in all their stages: from prevention to diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitative care.
The Institute also manages the Cancer Registry of Friuli Venezia Giulia and a biobank of about 170,000 serum and tissue samples from over 7,000 cancer patients and healthy subjects. The internal Library assists both staff and patients and their families through numerous informational and educational initiatives.
