Winners 2nd International Composition Competition

The Winners of the 2nd International Composition Competition "in memory of John de Beer"

The 2nd International Composition Competition "in memory of John de Beer" concluded with strong participation and a high artistic standard. Musicians and composers of various nationalities competed by submitting works that reflect diverse cultural backgrounds and sonic poetics; each brought their own experience and sensibility to the analysis and interpretation of the submitted scores.
The jury, composed of experts Óscar Navarro and Michele Mangani, evaluated the compositions taking into account originality, writing for clarinet ensembles, formal clarity, and expressive effectiveness. The judges highlighted the stylistic variety of the competing works and the high degree of attention to timbral and technical detail required by this instrumental ensemble.

Once the judging was complete, the prizes were awarded. Second prize went to Luca Newman (United Kingdom), whose composition stood out for its balance between formal rigor and melodic inventiveness, as well as his skillful use of the orchestral timbres of the clarinet section. Third prize went to David Cuevas Sanchez (Spain), recognized for the freshness of his ideas, his careful articulation of the lines, and his sensitivity in creating dynamic and timbral contrasts.

We thank all the participants for making this edition an opportunity for international exchange and a moment of growth for the clarinet choir repertoire. A heartfelt thank you also goes to the jury for their dedication and to the memory of John de Beer, whose legacy continues to inspire composers and performers.
